I’ve been quiet for a bit, that’s mostly because I’ve been preparing for or traveling to Cozumel for a weeks holiday. Behold, the view from my room:

The wife and I are having a lovely time, trying to decompress from all of our daily work stuff. It’s working pretty well. I’m already getting the urge to dive back into some SportsNode projects.

I will resist however. I must resist.

I think that most people can agree that as we age, our personal tastes grow with us. It occurs to me now that as I was growing up, I was exposed to quite a bit of… shall we say… questionable entertainment. The worst part is that I loved it.

Here, I present a list of 9 movies that I will knowingly and deliberately skip past if I were to see them on my television. These films represent a bundle of happy childhood memories that I just could not stand to ruin with “objectivity” or “reality”.

Note that this phenomenon differs significantly from “guilty pleasure” movies, these are movies that I never wish to see again because I know that it just won’t be the same. Also note that this is my own personal list (after looking at it you’ll have no question as to how I ended up as a software developer) AND I’m not saying that any of these movies ARE bad, just that they’ll just never be the same if I watched them again today.

A busy 48 hours…

April 21st, 2007

The last 48 hours have been a little crazy for me here. My article 10 Tips for Being a Better Office Professional hit the front page of Digg.com and the rest was history. I’d like to thank all of the readers that came and offered their kind words and (mostly) constructive criticism.

We essentially pushed out 25 times our month to date traffic in 2 days. I’m planning on doing a post mortem and followup on the whole affair in the near future, but for now I need to concentrate on making sure that our new server is up to speed and get back to work on Chicago.

From time to time I’m going to use this space to put down some things that just happen to be in my head. While they may not be related to SportsNode per se, this is my party and I’ll cry if I want to.

Todays random topic is Professionalism in the Workplace. I’m not in a position where I can quit my day job and work on SportsNode full time. So I work in an office.

In said office I sometimes see some things that inspired this post (regardless of how “common sense” some of these items are). Some of these rules (presented in an unordered list) have been broken by new folks for which this happens to be their first job and they just don’t know any better. Some however are perpetrated by people that should really know better…
